    By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a comprehensive understanding of gardening principles and techniques, along with the confidence and skills needed to cultivate a productive and sustainable garden.

    • Workshop Overview:

      Duration: 1/2 Day (4 hours)

      Overview: Join us for an immersive workshop designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to cultivate a thriving garden. Whether you're a novice or seasoned gardener, this workshop offers something for everyone.  The workshop will cover three main areas to make you a better grower:

      General Skills:

      • Garden Layout: Gain practical tips for designing and organizing your garden space efficiently, considering factors such as sunlight, walkways, water access, and plant spacing.
      • Common Tools: Familiarize yourself with essential gardening tools and their uses, from hand trowels to hoes, and learn proper maintenance techniques to keep them in top condition.
      • Crop Rotation: Understand the importance of crop rotation in preventing soil depletion and disease buildup, and learn how to implement effective rotation schedules.

      Growing Skills:

      • Seed Starting and Transplants: Learn the fundamentals of starting seeds indoors, hardening off and transplanting.
      • Bed Forming: Discover raised beds, checked logs, soil preparation, bed shaping, tillage and no dig methods.
      • Compost and Fertility Amendments: fertilizers, composting, weed juice, fish, kelp and other organic amendments.

      Technology:

      • Row Covers and insect netting: Learn how to use row covers effectively to protect your crops from pests, frost, and harsh weather conditions.
      • Mulches: Discover the benefits of mulching and how different types of mulches can improve soil health, retain moisture, and suppress weeds.
      • Greenhouses: Get insights into greenhouse gardening, from selecting the right structure to managing temperature and humidity for optimal plant growth.  We will review techniques and materials suitable for our climate and various budgets.
