    Target Audience:

    • Home Gardners interested in storage of root vegetables, fall preparation and planting for their home vegetable gardens.  Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, share experiences, and gain personalized insights into overcoming common gardening challenges.

     

    By the end of the workshop, participants will leave with a comprehensive understanding of getting the most out of their harvest, storage of produce and preparing a productive and sustainable garden for the next year.

    • Workshop Overview:

      Duration: 1/2 Day (4 hours)

      Overview: Join us for an immersive workshop designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to maintain a thriving garden. Whether you're a novice or seasoned gardener, this workshop offers something for everyone.  The workshop will cover three main areas to get the most out of your vegetable gardens:

      General Skills:

      • Wood Mulches: Participants will receive guidance on the effective use of wood chips and mulches, learning how these organic materials can conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and enhance soil fertility.  As well as versatility in planting and harvesting crops.

      • Managing Fruit Trees and Perrenial plants:  Reviewing best practices for fall management of various perrenial vegetables and fruit trees.

      Growing Skills:

      • Harvesting: Participants will delve into the intricate art of roots and cole crop harvesting.
      • Fall Bulbs: How to prepare ground for and plant garlic and other fall alliums.
      • Bed amendment strategies: how to enrich soil quality and foster optimal growth conditions.
      • Winterizing techniques: how to prepare your garden for the colder months and safeguard harvests against adverse weather conditions. The discussion will also encompass optimal storage methods.

      Technology:

      • Root cellars: Overview of good design, and optimal conditions to facilitate the long-term storage of root vegetables while preserving their freshness.
      • Curing configurations: practical solutions for drying and preserving crops.
      • Cultivation of fall mushrooms: introducing participants to the techniques and tools for successful mushroom growth in the home garden.
